l love the hobby niche concept even though I’m not in a hobby niche.

What is a hobby niche?

it’s a niche that covers a hobby. Examples include:

  • Quilting
  • Woodworking
  • Stamp collecting (collecting anything)
  • Birdwatching
  • Crafting

Google “list of hobbies” and you’ll find hundreds of hobbies.

Here’s what’s so great about hobby niches:

Commercially viable: usually hobbies require buying stuff to participate. That way there’s money flowing into it.

Build a loyal audience: Folks who participate in a hobby usually do so for years and remain engaged. Contrast that with someone looking for a vacuum. Once they buy a vacuum, they don’t care about your vacuum site anymore. Not so with hobbyists. They pursue it for years. If you provide good info on the blog and/or newsletter, they’ll be a regular visitor who will visit your site and open your emails regularly.

Email marketing potential: Email marketing is fun and for the right niches, lucrative. Hobby niches are ripe for email marketing because your audience has an ongoing interest. With a little practice, you can write a decent email in 15 to 30 minutes. That email could earn money from ads, affiliate links, and/or drive folks back to your ad-supported website or YouTube channel. it’s very powerful.

The almighty “how to” keyword: How to keywords often have high search volume isn’t terribly competitive and it’s easy to create far better content than most sites out there. The key is for every tutorial you publish, you actually do it and photograph it. The actual article will write itself after that. And yes, you can hire folks to do all this. I do with recipes. I have a writer who works with me who cooks every dish, photographs it, and writes the entire recipe and preparation article.

These are absolutely awesome. It can be done in many hobby niches.

Get paid to do what you like: Many hobbies have all kinds of gear and gadgets you can buy. As a hobby site publisher, you can buy all that stuff, and review it. demonstrate it and make money from it. it’s superfun.

All-in-all, I’m a big fan of hobby niches.
